ABSTRACT
Opportunities for mitigation of climate change: Forcing short life on the Transport of Mexico City
Xóchitl Cruz Núñez
A brief historical analysis of pollutants due to the transport sector in Mexico is presented. Different quality of air pollution by type of burned fuel in the transportation sector is analyzed. Among the pollutants of the modern era are the greenhouse gases that have a long half-lifetime so that actions taken at present shall have an effect on global temperatures in the medium and long term. Therefore, mitigation measures to act in the short-term are required. These are focused on reduction of emissions of short-lived climate forcers. Black carbon is one of these forcers and their main sources are the diesel-driven vehicles. Black carbon emissions are important in developing countries for their reduction has positive effects on a global level with additional co-benefits, mainly in public health and air quality.
