Resumen

El número de diagnósticos de Trastorno del Espectro Autista (tea) en adultos ha aumentado gracias al entendimiento de las dificultades psicosociales del autismo, ampliando los criterios diagnósticos para incluir manifestaciones sutiles. Sin embargo, la “generación perdida” de autistas a menudo pasa desapercibida debido a las estrategias de camuflaje que desarrollan para adaptarse al mundo neurotípico. Estas estrategias, combinadas con cambios significativos en la vida, pueden sobrepasar su capacidad de gestionar la información socio-afectiva. Bajo estas circunstancias, se descubre la condición autista en la adultez. Pero es importante destacar que sólo una minoría de autistas que buscan ayuda en salud mental obtienen un diagnóstico adecuado de tea. Este fenómeno plantea desafíos clave en el diagnóstico y enfatiza la necesidad de comprensión y conciencia sobre la experiencia de los adultos autistas en su búsqueda de identidad y aceptación.
