Fructose, that sweet enemy
Keywords:
fructose, metabolic syndrome, brain, learning, memoryAbstract
In the last decades, fructose consumption in Mexico has increased dramatically. This sugar is used as a sweetener in soft drinks, bottled juices, cereals, bakery, dairy and candies. Its daily consumption is associated with the development of metabolic syndrome, diabetes, obesity and with harmful effects on the brain that modify appetite, the sleep-wake cycle, neurogenesis, learning and memory. The aim of this article is to describe the wide variety of harmful effects on health generated by the excessive consumption of fructose.
