Abstract

Cities are responsible for generating large amounts of global greenhouse gas emissions and for the consumption of available natural resources, which negatively affects the environment. That is why landscape interventions in urban ecosystems represent a viable strategy to improve their ecological functionality and contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change. For this, it is essential to incorporate the role of species richness, functional diversity and spatial complexity as guidelines for the design of urban landscape interventions, all of which is explored in this text.
