The park as an eco-anxiety cure

Eco-anxiety is a psychological impact on health derived from climate change. Its impacts occur in differentiated ways in vulnerable populations. It is important to know mitigation strategies to move towards a world with greater climate justice. Parks and green areas in cities can function as mitigation strategies. On one hand, they mitigate climate change by reducing temperatures, capturing rainwater, and promoting biodiversity; on the individual level they promote relaxation and mental health, reduce anxiety, educate about local nature, and encourage local networks. The park itself offers the population valuable opportunities: to the population, of restoring their physical and mental health; to the environment, sanitation and regulation. Despite the multiple benefits of climate action in parks, there is some reluctance as small-scale efforts are rarely perceived as a large-scale contribution, even though they can indeed add up collectively across society.
