Rural to Urban Migration and its Impact on Consumption Patterns

When discussing rural migration, it is common to associate it with positive changes that improve quality of life. However, migration involves adopting new consumption habits that alter basic needs, generating negative impacts that often go unnoticed and pose a threat to biodiversity, indigenous cultures, and the environment, all of which are essential elements for achieving global sustainability. This article addresses the environmental implications of increased food consumption, new consumer goods, and the expansion of built-up areas, analyzing the phenomenon of rural migration from its repercussions to potential solutions to mitigate its negative effects.
