The green side of Oaxacan pottery: a strategy for permanence?

Prior to the widespread use of plastic, pewter, and other materials, pottery had a central role in the commercial activity of many rural communities. Due to the inclusion of alternative materials and the dissemination of the use of toxic substances in the production of clay handicrafts, pottery was displaced from daily use. However, when visiting rural communities, particularly in the Oaxaca state, one can see the importance that pottery still has, especially to families living in poverty, that find in it a means of subsistence. The following article aims to raise awareness about maintaining pottery activity through strategies that allow continuity.
