Technology and mental health: virtual agents for brief motivational interventions
Keywords:
Embodied Conversational Agent, Brief Motivational Interview, Mental Health, Anxiety, DepressionAbstract
Mental health issues affect well-being and have an impact on the work capacity and interpersonal relationships of those who experience them. Attention to these issues is low in many countries, including Mexico, due to factors beyond economic ones. Technology can increase the availability and accessibility of treatments and maximize psychotherapeutic outcomes. As an example, here we share the foundations and development of a mobile application with a conversational virtual agent. This agent aims to promote adherence to psychotherapeutic treatment for anxiety and depression through brief motivational interventions.
