Revista Digital Universitaria (rdu) of unam was a visionary project that transformed the way knowledge is disseminated in the digital age. At a time when printed academic publications dominated, the rdu emerged as an innovative initiative to share the university’s scientific and cultural output with the world. Under the direction of Dr. Víctor Guerra Ortiz, this initiative broke paradigms by adopting a peer-reviewed publishing model, ensuring quality and credibility in a fully digital format.
How was it possible to create a high-level journal in an environment where print publications were the norm? What challenges did unam face in driving this transformation? In this interview, recovered from 2010 (as the rdu celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2025), Dr. Guerra Ortiz takes us through the history of this publication, revealing anecdotes, challenges, and the impact of an idea that, over time, proved to be an essential step toward the future of knowledge communication.
