Amino acids are molecules with great importance in human nutrition. However, nowadays in Materials Science, their use has been extended to develop novel synthesis methods where amino acids function as reducing and stabilizing precursors to obtain products of interest. In this sense, this work addresses in a simple way why these biomolecules can reduce noble metal salts, resulting in metallic nanoparticles, such as the formation of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs).
