Prison theatre has become vital for those who practice it as a lifestyle and as a way of expression. The prisoners have found in theater a challenge to grow through art, as well as a way of healing that finds in drama a sense of life. This article is a brief tribute to Juan Pablo de Tavira, prime mover of the prison reform in Mexico in the eighties and creator of the prison theatre.
