Soil Architects: How Fungi Sustain Ecosystems

Did you know that beneath your feet there is an invisible army that sustains life? Soil fungi, tiny yet powerful, recycle nutrients, help plants grow, and keep ecosystems in balance. In Mexico, we still know very little about them, especially in the southern and southeastern states. Soils with natural vegetation or reforestation plantations host more fungi, while livestock farming and agriculture reduce their numbers. Initiatives such as the palo de tinte plantations in Campeche demonstrate that we can restore fungal diversity and strengthen ecosystems.
