Northern Music: its Importance and Development in Mexico

It is important to study Mexican music because the coordinates of Mexicanness in the 21st century pass through it. As in the twentieth century, the Bajio was the mother región of Mexicanness, today El Norte is the origin of the social representations that define us as Mexicans. The Images of a barbaric and uncultured North, date back to the nineteenth century. Today, the world knows Mexico thanks to El Norte. El Norte is an economic and cultural región that today defines us as Mexicans. Norteña music, in particular, is a prevailing social phenomenon that gains researchers every year, in and out of Mexico.
